LLU+ is setting up a Voluntary Sector ESOL Network for ESOL teachers and co-ordinators. The aim is to provide an opportunity for ESOL teachers and co-ordinators in the voluntary sector to meet, raise key issues and to take the discussion forward. The Network will do this by inviting relevant speakers, sharing examples of good practice and identifying appropriate training. LLU+ will support the continuing demand for ESOL curriculum training by supporting 25 teachers of asylum seekers to be trained in using the online curriculum and in the implementation of the ESOL curriculum.

TES - Training and Employment Section, The Refugee Council

TES will develop and disseminate a good practice guide on working with volunteers. This will include their experiences and feedback on engaging asylum seekers as volunteers and training and engaging volunteer ESOL tutors in their work. The Basic Skills Agency

The Basic Skills Agency will disseminate and mainstream lessons from the research and demonstration project strand by:

1. Publishing research findings on the Basic Skills Observatory website
2. Establishing a webpage for exemplar materials on BSA website
3. Making presentations to key audiences

• The Basic Skills Agency will develop schemes of work, teaching materials and produce a report with exemplars of effective practice and disseminate good practice in developing sector specific language programmes
• The Basic Skills Agency will deliver 12 workshops to familiarise practitioners with citizenship/orientation materials
• The Basic Skills Agency will organise 2 national conferences, one in England and one in Wales, to disseminate policy recommendations, research findings, citizenship and sector specific learning materials and to propose further action

National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE)

• NIACE will network with partners to disseminate and mainstream lessons from skills and qualifications audits
• NIACE will produce and disseminate a guide for practitioners undertaking skills & qualifications audits with asylum seekers
• NIACE will produce and disseminate a policy paper on auditing and developing the skills of asylum seekers
• NIACE will disseminate methodology, audit tool, findings, and good practice in auditing skills and qualifications through existing networks

NIACE will disseminate and mainstream findings and results of Skills Audits

Refugee Assessment and Guidance Unit (RAGU)

• Organise 10 focus groups of users and stakeholders to demonstrate and promote the use of our 'Information for Asylum Seekers' website and to get feedback. Using feedback from focus groups to develop and improve this website.
• Translating summaries of all 7 units on 'Information for Asylum Seekers' website into 8 refugee community languages.
• Organising a conference for our network, Higher Education for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (HERAN) on 11 May 2005.
• Creating a website for HERAN with useful downloadable information for staff, students and prospective students and also examples of good practice from UK universities.
• Producing 3 reports: 1) on good practice and lessons learnt in providing training for mainstream staff; 2) on our feedback on on-line information from focus groups around the UK and 3) the university network conference report.

Sheffield College

• Will exchange strategies with three regional colleges
• Will create co-operation with Local Education Authorities
• Will establish strong links with employers, trade unions and voluntary organisations
• Will produce an anthology of asylum seekers writings
• Will organise an exhibition "Home and Hopes"
• Will organise a conference on the Education of Asylum Seekers in an Further Education context 3 November 2005
